Highlights from Gabi Campanario's Urban Sketching Bothell Workshop
This past weekend Cloud 9 hosted an urban sketching workshop with the original Urban Sketcher, Gabriel Campanario. This Urban Sketching workshop explored our hometown, Bothell, Washington, a lovely northwest river town.
They kicked-off the workshop on Friday evening with an introduction to urban sketching by Gabi and a group dinner.
Saturday was a full day of demos and sketching. Participants came from all over the region, even as far as Victoria B.C.!
The first day Gabi taught how to break down a complex scene into simple shapes, and how to insert the complexity back into the drawing.
He also showed how a Bic pen or a pencil are ideal tools to practice the pressure control that is essential to the act of drawing.
A private sketch tour of the charming Bothell Historical Society & Museum and making value studies in grayscale and monochrome at Bothell Landing Park kept everyone busy for the rest of Saturday.
On Sunday it was all about watercolor technique. Gabi's demos focused on watercolor techniques for painting on location.
The workshop ended with a mini-field trip to Bothell’s Country Village, where they sketched for a few hours and were joined by other Urban Sketchers.
Thanks to Gabi for offering these fabulous workshops at Cloud 9 and thank you to Urban Sketchers and Stillman & Birn for making the event possible.
A percentage of this workshop’s revenue is donated by Cloud 9 and by Gabi to the Urban Sketchers nonprofit to support its mission of raising the artistic, educational and storytelling value of on-location sketching.
