3D Pastel Paper Collages
Each week in Emily Brown’s class for 6 - 12 year olds, students start off our class with a 15-30min drawing warm-up. Artists have come to expect some sort of value study, material study, or contour drawing for warm ups. This week Emily surprised them with copying a drawing... upside down! All of the artists were new to this and enjoyed the challenge. Many of them finished early and then attempted to draw the squirrel right side up next to their original upside down drawing. They noticed in general their upside drawings were more proportionately accurate. They will definitely be doing more upside down drawing in the future.
Their project this week was to create 3D pastel paper collages.
Students focused on blending multiple colors together to create more visual texture as you can see in the tree trunks. Then they created creatures to live inside their trees and blended fall inspired pastels onto colored paper to create their leaves.
Ninety minutes has never flown by so fast! Great job artists!
