In this workshop, we’ll be drawing fantastical creatures of the land, sea and sky. Strong focus will be on combining different parts of animals to create a new creature. Plants and bugs not excluded! This is a wonderful exercise not only in sketching but also brainstorming ideas and thinking outside the box. Each week we’ll tackle a new theme and use different animals to generate new ideas. Draw in greyscale or color using your favorite medium!

For any illustrator, sketchbooks are essential. It’s where ideas are born, where imagination is ignited, where skills are developed, it’s where the magic happens! It’s a playground for the creative soul. If you have a sketchbook practice already or simply drawing on your own but would love to explore new ideas, this course is for you! You’ll learn how to unlock your imagination through drawing prompts and inspirational tips, create your own characters and settings.

HOW IT WORKS:

Before the workshop begins, I will send out a ZOOM invite. Each week we’ll tackle a new theme/topic. Before each class I’ll email you images and inspiration. During class I will show you a short presentation on illustration concepts/principles; a video on how to create that day’s exercise and then we sit and draw together. You are welcome to email me images of artwork and/or show everyone during class.

WHAT YOU NEED:

A sketchbook or two (wet media would be ideal), graphite pencil, few color pencils for sketching, pen(s) - brush pen is always fun, watercolors or gouache, eraser, sharpener, ruler, tracing paper or thin bond paper for sketching.
