Urban Sketching Workshops with Gabi Campanario
Join the original urban sketcher, Seattle-area artist and journalist Gabi Campanario, for a fun series of art classes around downtown Bothell, a pleasant river town 15 miles north of Seattle.
This event consists of three drawing workshops themed around key urban sketching topics: architecture, people and nature. Campanario will demonstrate how he approaches each subject and guide participants through exercises in different techniques, including pencil, ink, and watercolor.
Workshops are 3.5 hours long. Each workshop includes a lesson indoors at Cloud 9 Art School, followed by a demonstration and exercises out in the field.
Participants can register for as many workshops as they’d like, but space in each workshop is limited to 12 people to ensure a good learning experience for everyone. Each 3.5-hour workshop costs $100. A community sketch walk on Sunday afternoon is free for anyone to attend.
We'll walk around Bothell’s revitalized downtown and nearby Bothell Landing Park and practice the lessons of each workshop. The park along the Sammamish River shoreline is a city gem that includes several historic buildings.
Schedule (sign up for one, two or all three workshops.)
Saturday, March 14
Architecture Sketching Workshop (9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; $100)
Working from the general to the specific, participants will learn how to draw buildings that look as solid and accurate on paper as they do in real life.
People Sketching Workshop (1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.; $100)
A solid grasp of human anatomy goes a long way to capture people out in the field. This workshop will cover basic anatomy lessons in the classroom before we go out in the field to capture people in motion with gestural drawings.
Sunday, March 15
Nature Sketching Workshop (9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; $100)
Expect to work with your watercolors to capture organic shapes, water reflections and interesting textures.
Open Sketchwalk (2 to 4 p.m.; free)
