This workshop is all about drawing Australian Animals! You’ll learn how to begin a drawing, how to see and draw forms within an animal’s shape as well as capture proportions through measuring. Lastly, learn how to shade to show fir and other textures. 3 mediums: graphite, charcoal and pen.

My style is very detailed and rendered because it’s what comes naturally to me (it’s my happy place), but I encourage my students to embrace and work in their own style and make it the best it can be.

HOW IT WORKS:

Before the workshop starts I will send out a ZOOM invite for all our classes together. Each week I’ll email some reference images for you to work from. I will show you examples of drawing techniques, forms, and examples of artworks plus a video on how to create that day’s exercise. Then we sit and draw together. During class you can email me images of your artwork so that I can give you feedback and advice where needed. We can learn a lot from one another so it’s always wonderful to show your work to others. I strive to make this workshop very interactive.

OUTLINE and WHAT YOU NEED:

Week 1 & 2: koala & wombat or quokka - Graphite pencils (a set or 2H, HB, 2B, 6B), white drawing paper, eraser, sharpener, blending stick.

Week 3 & 4: Tasmanian devil & wallaby/kangaroo - Charcoal (willow & compressed), or black and white Conte pencils, on white or brown craft paper such as construction paper, blending stick, putty eraser.

Week 5 & 6: echidna & crocodile - Pens: brush pens or technical drawing pens (0.1, 0.5 or thicker - Copic, Faber-Castell or Micron).

Optional supplies: If you like you are welcome to add some color to your charcoal or conte pencil drawings by using color conte pencils or a few chalk pastels.

BONUS:

By signing up for any of my classes, you are invited to a private Facebook community where you can find more inspiration, more instructional videos as well as art feedback and support. This is a safe space, only for my students, for sharing and feedback. Also, FREE open studio on Tuesday evenings. Email invites sent out at the beginning of every month.
