Basic drawing skills required.

Online using Zoom.

In this workshop, we’ll be creating drawings of fantastical plants, birds or creatures. All styles welcome - from illustrational to realistic. Strong focus will be on combining different parts of real plants or animals and creating a NEVER SEEN BEFORE botanical variety or species - one that only grows in your imagination. This is a wonderful exercise not only in drawing but also stretching your imagination. There will be two weeks per drawing/concept - you’ll be able to complete up to 3 drawings. You are free to choose the medium or mediums. Demo will cover: pen, pencils and watercolor or gouache.

HOW IT WORKS:

Before the workshop begins, I will send out a ZOOM invite. Before class I’ll email you images and inspiration. During class I will show you a short presentation; a video on how to create that day’s exercise and then we sit and draw together. You are welcome to email me images of artwork and/or show everyone during class.

WHAT YOU NEED:

A sketchbook (wet media would be ideal) or loose pieces of paper (hot press paper is often a good option).

Thin bond paper for initial sketches might be useful (I personally like to do that - sketch out my drawings and then trace them onto good quality paper for final art)

Scissors & glue for those who want to create collages first before drawing.

Light box/table if you are sketching first and then tracing.

Choose one or more: graphite pencils, color pencils, pen(s), watercolors or gouache, eraser, sharpener, ruler.
