*Suggested Pre-Requisite: Laurie’s on-demand BEGINNING PASTEL CLASS or some experience with hard pastel, soft pastel, and pastel pencil. For information about this on-demand option click here.

In this two-session class, you will explore working with soft pastels on velour paper and create a portrait of a fawn from a reference provided as part of the class. In session one you will paint a soft-focus background with beautiful lighting that will surround your fawn providing the subject matter with directed paths of light that enhance areas of interest, such as the fawn's eyes. In the same session, you will begin blocking the subject matter. In the second session, you will learn a variety of techniques applicable to soft furry animals including ears, the nose, and eyes while you begin strategizing your own methods for layering, building, and completing a final painting. Additionally, demonstrations about finding the right amount of light vs. dark, soft focus vs. fine detail will be peppered throughout the two sessions.

A supply list and photo reference will be sent to students prior to class.
