PAINTING A HUMMINGBIRD

PAINTING A HUMMINGBIRD IN A LOOSE AND FREE STYLE WITH BRUSHO© POWDERED PIGMENTS

For TEENS AND ADULTS

With LAURIE KATHLEEN CLARK

Sunday, April 23

1:30pm - 3:30pm (Pacific Time)

$30

If you have ever wanted to capture a hummingbird and all its characteristics, including its zippy, darting flight and extravagant, flashy color array, you will love this afternoon workshop.

Watercolors can be intimidating enough but add to it the delightful antics a hummingbird is well loved for and you may have given up on using this media for that subject. Leave your fears behind, abandon pre-determined expectations, and experience the sheer joy of using powdered pigments and water to create a loose illustration full of movement, color and expression.

Photo references will be provided prior to class, however, minimal preparation is necessary and can be accomplished during class as well.

The intent is to allow students to enjoy the playful freedom of experimenting and pushing boundaries but not in an environment that causes undue anxiety. Your instructor will start the workshop removing a few obstacles to successful hummingbird paintings by detailing some of the pitfalls of the medium and how to avoid them.

We will start our time together sharing projects from past nature sketchbook clubs if you participated in them, enjoying each other's successes and receiving input and feedback if desired. From there we will explore a new tool or product, including a brief exploration of ways to incorporate that new find in our sketchbooks. The balance of the class will be a demonstration devoted to the theme of the day.

A supply list will be sent to students prior to class.
