If you love vintage charts of butterfly species, this class is for you. We will create a vintage look chart from images of butterflies that appeal to you, arrange them in a pleasing composition then carefully sketch them in the first session. The second session will be focused on rendering the butterflies in gouache. The two session class is designed to have time between sessions to allow for work on the chart between classes. The process of creating chart such as this is a slow, contemplative, observational method of recording the spectacular world of nature, capturing the essence of the subject in a deep meaningful way.

In this class we will create a garden journal page. Year after year, I think I will remember what I planted, it's name, how tall it grew and whether it liked sun or shade. And each new growing season, I realize I have forgotten it all, again. Let's organize all those notes, create beautiful little quick sketches and label everything on a spread that will not only be beautiful but a great way to begin next year's garden.

Together, we will design a full-page interactive spread that tells the story of a fishing adventure on the Yakima River in Eastern Washington.
