This workshop will have you observing and drawing what goes on in your late summer – early fall garden over a six-week period, recording what has happened over the past few months and plans for the winter and next spring. There will be a chance to record the colors of the season to see if and how they change over the course of the workshop, drawing maps of your garden, documenting what worked and what didn’t, drawing fruit and vegetables and herbs in the garden if you have them, or your flowers, leaves and trees. What do you make with your harvest? What animals and bugs visit your garden? What plants and seeds would you like to try in your garden next year? This workshop is an opportunity to start on a garden journal that can allow you to appreciate the garden you have now and to be useful for your gardening in the future.

I will be using ink and watercolor with graphite in a sketchbook, but you are welcome to use whatever kind of medium you’d like that will work in a sketchbook: colored ink, colored pencil, watercolor pencil, watercolors, etc. As we get closer to September, I’ll ask that you collect some pictures from your garden to use during the first class.

All skill levels welcome.
