Basic experience with pens and watercolor advised

Online using Zoom.
(For more information about how to use Zoom, click here.)

This workshop is all about bringing together love of drawing with pens and spontaneous personality of watercolors. You are going to create watercolor washes on hot press paper and then draw trees and forest elements on top. You will be able to draw with your favorite pens: micron pens, ballpoint pens, fountain pen or pentel hybrid technica pens.

HOW IT WORKS:

Before the workshop starts I will send out a ZOOM invite for all our classes together. Each week I’ll email some reference images for you to work from. I will show you examples of techniques plus a video on how to create that day’s exercise. Then we sit and draw together. During class you can email me images of your artwork so that I can give you feedback and advice where needed. We can learn a lot from one another so it’s always wonderful to show your work to others. I strive to make this workshop very interactive.

OUTLINE and WHAT YOU NEED:

Week 1: watercolor washes and tiny drawing

Week 2: tree or nursing tree

Week 3: forest details (such as ferns or lichen or cones growing on trees)

Week 4: forest scene

What you need:

Hot press paper - it can be a sketchbook such as Stillman & Birn Zeta
Watercolors - your favorite colors or a travel kit. I have Daniel Smith, Winsor & Newton and Sennelier sets.
Large and medium watercolor brush.
Cup for water. Paper towels. Hairdryer to speed up drying time or allow the watercolor washes to dry over night.

BONUS:

By signing up for any of my classes, you are invited to a private Facebook community where you can find more inspiration, more instructional videos as well as art feedback and support. This is a safe space, only for my students, for sharing and feedback. Also, FREE open studio on Tuesday evenings. Email invites sent out at the beginning of every month.
