This workshop is all about drawing textures in pen and ink, and/or graphite. Each week, you’ll learn about mark making, shading and creating values for different forest textures This course is for anyone who loves details and wishes to create fine intricate pieces. We’ll be working with fine pens and pencils. Due to the time limit, you will be able to trace a photo or transfer the line drawing that I’ll send you before class begins. The focus will be on rendering rather than drawing basic forms.
HOW IT WORKS:
Before the workshop starts I will send out a ZOOM invite for all our classes together. Each week I’ll email some reference images for you to work from. I will show you examples techniques, forms, and examples of artworks plus a video on how to create that day’s exercise. Then we sit and draw together. During class you can email me images of your artwork so that I can give you feedback and advice where needed. We can learn a lot from one another so it’s always wonderful to show your work to others. I strive to make this workshop very interactive.
OUTLINE and WHAT YOU NEED:
Week 1: sea anemones
Week 2: hermit crab or crab
Week 3: jellyfish or seahorse
Supplies: Graphite pencils (a set or 2H, HB, 2B, 4B). Mechanical pencils are welcome. Tombow Mono zero eraser 2.3. and normal eraser, sharpener, blending stick. Pens: technical drawing pens (0.05, 0.1, 0.3 or little thicker - Copic, Faber-Castell or Micron) or ball point pens (Bic or Zebra). Drawing paper for pens (smooth, for wet media). I find that smooth paper works really nicely for graphite as well. Even white color copy paper will work for what we are going to do. You are welcome to choose one medium or all three.
BONUS:
By signing up for any of my classes, you are invited to a private Facebook community where you can find more inspiration, more instructional videos as well as art feedback and support.
