All Skill Levels Welcome

The goal of this workshop is to explore abstraction through East Asian cultures and spiritual ideas. You will learn how to see beyond the Western history of abstraction and understand alternative ways of abstraction through the unity of mind and body. I will show you how to experiment with calligraphic abstract marks and create compositions through the creative process and working with collage techniques. The class will use ink to explore monochromatic abstraction through line, value and composition.

My abstract images are produced by my inner need to question reality, experiences and current events. Having a nomadic life, I have been influenced by my Asian background and contemporary Western culture. I realize my process and ideas co-exist around multiple influences that cannot be stereotyped into one visual style. This class will offer a new way to experience and make abstract art insightful, intuitive and meditative.

How It works:

You will receive a Zoom invitation for this class. At the beginning of each class, I will introduce Contemporary Korean, Japanese and Chinese abstract artworks to show multiple ideas and approaches. Later, I will demonstrate and explain mark making with washes and line drawings. We will share our artwork with the class so that we can inspire each other. This is the best way to learn and will lead to meaningful connections.
