While this class is not advanced, some experience with the medium would be helpful. Suggested Pre-Requisite: Beginning Pastel Painting, an on-demand tutorial also taught by Laurie.

In this two-session class, you will continue to build on the basics of pastel painting including discussion and demonstrations with hard pastel, soft pastel, pastel pencils and pan pastels to create a painting of a raven from a reference provided as part of the class.

In session one you will paint a soft-focus background and learn to balance detail and color in a background without detracting from the subject matter. You will begin blocking in the subject matter. In the second session, you will learn a variety of techniques applicable to birds as a subject matter and begin strategizing your own methods for layering, building and completing a final painting.

A supply list and photo reference will be sent to students prior to class.
